Americans’ Rising Faith in Housing Market

After the housing bubble burst a few years ago, many people did not have faith in the housing market and were not looking to buy a new home. Luckily, with the economy stabilizing, Americans are moving once again.

Almost half of Americans, 47 percent, report that they feel more comfortable purchasing a home now than they have in the last five years. Almost a third of those say that they are ready to move. The number of residential moves have been up 16 percent in the historically slowest months, between January and March.

The strongest growth is in the West, where 54 percent of people are now comfortable purchasing a home. This percentage of people are inspired to enter the housing market with hopes of purchasing a new home or to find a home in a more attractive neighborhood. Many people are also showing aspirations to become first time homeowners.

Millennials, people between 18 and 34, are more receptive to buying a new home and are looking to move within the next year. Most young people are looking to move because of a change of employment or a growing family, whereas people over the age of 65 are looking to move because of retirement.
